To take a screen shot with your iPad, press the Home and Sleep/Wake (Power) button simultaneously. If done successfully, the screen will flash and you'll hear the same camera shutter sound that's made when taking photos.
To access and share your screenshot, go to Photos and open the Cameral Roll.
